When building new Lycoming engines with the EFii electronic fuel and ignition or Lightspeed ignition, there are many parts you can remove in the engine. I found that these plates where necessary to cover pads on the rear of the engine as well as holes where mag gears used to go. If you don’t the oil ports will flow too much oil reducing the overall oil pressure achievable in the engine.
